The Source Turns 200

The Source recently delivered its 200th issue commemorating oh 140 or so issues of greatness and 60 of total embarrassment. While they have made efforts under the new management to improve the magazine, their recent commemorative issue continued to disappoint with a brief bar side bar dedicated to Proof. You can say what you want about the way Proof died, but The Source used to be a go to spot for tribute issues of our fallen soldiers. Their Biggie and 2Pac tribute issues were classics beyond the definition of the word. The Proof "tribute" appears in a sidebar column on page 39 given as much space as the story about South Central farmers sitting right next to it. You think positive things when you see the Cube cover but when you open the magazine, it's the same safe, press release generated and untimely journalism we've seen from the magazine in the past several years. This 200th issue is by no means a fitting tribute to a magazine that used to mean so much that now has no relevance at all.
