The booty. It's the most celebrated and most referenced body part in the urban music world. And with the ascension of J-Lo's popularity, the rest of the world too, has become fixated on the ga-donka ga-donka donk. One of the most famous butts out there belongs to the stunning, Cuban born model, Vida Guerra. She's one of the internet's most downloaded women, and rightfully so. She's one hot mamacita, with an ass that would make J-Lo self-conscious. Vida, however, isn't just another booty-ful woman. She's got more to offer. "More ass?!" you say? No. She's got a voice and style in that lovely little frame of hers. Ms. Guerra is set to release her debut album, Theme Park, on the world, and get people talking about her other… assets.

Brendan: You've got an album coming out very soon. Now, a lot of people are probably not going to want to hear your music, because they see you as just a model and the girl known for her booty. Why should they give you a chance?

Vida: Because, I'm living my dream. Basically, the modeling came first, but it was not like I started modeling and then said, "Oooh, let me make music!" Y'know? It was something I was aspiring to, because growing up, my parents didn't know anything, coming from Cuba, about it… They wanted me to have a regular career. They didn't think this was possible because of how we grew up. So people need to have an open mind and an open ear to accept me musically.

B: What can we expect from the album?

V: The album… It's R & B and hip hop with some Spanish influence in the music and the beats. I'm singing on some of the songs and rapping. I'm not singing like a Mariah Carey or Celine Dion, but I'm singing and I'm rapping. And the rapping is kind of like just a flow, y'know? Not like a 50 Cent rap.

B: Who are some of your musical influences?

V: I listened to all different kinds of songs growing up. I love Mary J. Blige. She's by far one of my favorites, but I listened to Madonna growing up. My dad listened to Elvis, The Beatles and Paula Anka. I grew up with the music of my Dad. He played guitar, and when we were in Cuba, there's no TV, so we just had music to get by. So I've been listening to music since I was a little girl.

B: Being from Cuba, I assume you speak some Spanish.

V: Si.

B: Cantaras en espanol?

V: (laughs) Umm… No. I don't sing in Spanish. Not that I can't, it's just that it's hard for me to read in Spanish. Like, I can speak Spanish, but I can't read it.

B: You mentioned you rap on the album as well.

V: Yes.

B: I can't picture this. Do you have mic skills? Can you rap well?

V: Yeah.

B: Drop me a line.

V: (laughs) Drop you a line?

B: Sure. From the album. Give me a line from the album. I won't ask you to freestyle or anything.

V: (laughs) Okay. I don't play games / I just make a lotta G's / Have you beggin' for my pussy like Vida, Vida, please.

Since she brought it up, why don't we stay on the subject of Vida's pussy? Her ass usually gets most of the attention, but last year anyone who had internet access were led to believe they could have a view of more than Vida's derriere, when her mobile phone was hacked into, and photos of her were posted all over the web. According to Vida, some of the photos, particularly the fully nude close-up shots, were not of her. These photos were mixed in with some of her own to give the impression that they were nude photos of her. Not so, says Flash Rodriguez of record label, Flash Records, that Vida allegedly was once signed to. According to him, the whole thing was a publicity stunt that Vida did without his approval, to create a buzz around her soon to be released single. He insists that all the photos were of her. How does he know this? Rodriguez claims to recognize the finger nails and tattoos as Vida's. He dropped her from his label because of the situation, and because he found her singing ability to be less than sub par.

B: I want to clear up some facts from fiction, Vida. There are some nude photos allegedly of you that were hacked and circulated on the net. The head of a label you were once believed to be signed to, said these photos are of you, despite what you or anyone else might say, and that you released them as a publicity stunt. Any truth to that?

V: No. First of all, I was never signed to that Flash Rodriguez guy. Ever. The guy is twenty something years old, and had no financial backing to sign a new artist. Therefore, I never even entertained it. As far as him making that statement, he was trying to get some sort of publicity for himself.

B: Oh, so his statement was a publicity stunt in its own right?

V: Yeah. Those pictures… I don't know how my phone was hacked into, whether the server was hacked into, or a friend took those pictures. I had hundreds of photos because I didn't know they stay in your folder. Y'know, I would just take a picture, then delete it. Some of those pictures were mine and some weren't. Everybody made such a big deal about it last year, so that's why I ended up doing the photo shoot with Playboy. To be like, "Okay, you really wanna see me in the nude?"

Let's switch focus to Vida's more prominent body part: Her booty. It is, after all, what first grabbed everyone's attention. Could Mos Def unknowingly have been talking about her when he rapped, "Ass so fat that you could see it from the front,"? Would Tribe Called Quest consider her to be the new age Bonita Applebum? She certainly has it going on. There is no ignoring Vida's behind. Askmen.com likened it to a bag of Lay's Chips, except in this case they are betting you can't just take one glance at her fine figure. Now that she's trying to launch a music career, will people be willing to look past her ass?

B: What do you say to those who say you only have a career because of your ass?

V: How many girls have asses?

B: Valid point but, very few girls' asses get the attention that yours does?

V: (laughs) Why? There are a lot of nice asses going around.

B: True but…

V: Umm… It's a very ignorant comment. Because if they think that that's what actually got me this far, then… I don't know. They're very ignorant for thinking that. That's what got me noticed in the beginning, but then you have to take it to another level… Do you know what I'm saying?

B: Absolutely. There's much more to Vida than your…

V: Yeah. But there will always be haters. Not everybody will like everybody. The haters are who fuel me and inspire me to do better.

B: On The Game's new album, he's got a track with Kanye called "Wouldn't Get Far", about video girls. It doesn't necessarily target you, but there is reference to you in it.

V: Yeah he targets me. I heard he targets me.

B: Have you heard it?

V: No. I heard something about it. First of all, he doesn't even say my name correct, so if he's gonna make a song about me, or say my name in a song, make sure you get my name right.

B: (laughs)

V: That's all I'm sayin'.

B: So no response to… Well you haven't heard the line.

V: No, what's the line?

B: Been around hoes that fucked Biggie and ‘Pac / Like Vida Guerra / Ass took her to the top / She'd give you some brain if you let her throw up the Roc. Any response to that?

V: I didn't know he would take rejection so personally, that he'd actually put my name in a song. But y'know, he's trying to sell records so, it's causing some stir. Everybody's gotta hustle. You can't knock him for his hustle.

B: Wait, so he's approached you before?

V: Yeah.

B: I didn't know this? Shed some light, girl.

V: (laughs) I mean, he just asked me to hang out with him. I met him at a party. He was cool, but I was not interested in him like that, y'know? So I was always like, "I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm busy. I'm busy." Every time he had asked. It was through emails. We just exchanged emails. And that was it. And then I hear about this song. So I was like, "Damn. I didn't know he was gonna take rejection so personally." You know what it is. A lot of people in the industry are used to getting what ever they want and who ever they want because of who they are, y'know? And when you reject them, it's not anything personal. It's just that they might not be your style or your flavor. It could be different things. They take it real personally. Obviously.

B: Let's get away from the music and entertainment. What does Vida do on her down time?

At this point either the phone got cut off, or Miss Guerra hung up on me. I waited patiently. I wasn't about to take it personally. Sure enough she phoned back.

V: Sorry. Where were we?

B: I was heading away from the music and asking you what you did on your down time.

V: Oh, no, we were talking about Game. (laughs)

B: Alright, we can talk some more about The Game if you want to.

V: Well, no, no. I'm done with it. That's why I said, "I don't play games / I just make a lotta G's / Have you beggin' for my pussy like Vida, Vida, please.

B: (laughs) Damn. Alright now, what do you do on your down time?

V: My down time? I do a lot of shopping. I have a problem, I think. I work out. I kind of live a boring life. I go bowling. I eat a lot. A lot. More than a couple times a day.

B: That's fine.

V: No, like more than the usual.

B: Is that how you got the booty? From eating?

V: (laughing) No. My booty's not that big. It's just that I have a small frame so my butt is a little bit bigger than the rest of my body.

B: Generally, do you find guys are all over you when you go out in public, or are they afraid to approach you?

V: Oh, sometimes they're afraid and sometimes they're annoying. Girls are crazy, actually. I get grabbed more by girls than guys.

B: Really?

V: Yeah.

B: Random girls will just grab you?

V: Yep.

B: Do they say anything? Or…

Determination and focus is exactly what Vida will need if she's going to make it in the cutthroat music industry. She has a positive outlook on her life and is clearly looking forward, but will her music lead the rest of the world to focus a little less on her behind?
