Still Mef: Method Man

As it is with any crew no matter what they do there is always that one dude that stands out. When it comes to the Wu-Tang Clan, which is no doubt the deepest and one of the best crews ever, everybody has their own personality. Starting off with the RZA as the clan's master mind, the lyrical intelligence of the GZA/Genius, the ferocious rhyme skills of Ghostface Killah and Raekwon, the dude with no father to his game O.D.B. and let's not forget Inspectah Deck, U-God and Masta Killah. Then there is Method Man, that dude who comes with his own Method of doing things, especially when it comes to blazing.
With Method Man getting back in the studio and releasing the new album "4:21" it seems he was disappointed in the magazine ratings, yet he feels it's his best work to date. As us hip-hop fans got to know Method Man throughout his career you can see he does not give a F..ck about anything and speaks his mind freely. Read this raw interview with Johnny Blaze as the new Method Man learns to change his drawers a lot more, tells us why Scott Storch is so cool and why he felt the Wu-Tang Clan was honored too early at the VH1 hip-hop honors.
Q: Meth what's good, I'm feeling that new album you got out right now.
Meth: Yeah, a lot of people are except for a lot of magazines, but fuck em anyway.
Q: Now with you being a vet in the game for a minute what's the difference between the Method Man now compared to when you first came out with Wu-Tang Clan?
Meth: I change my drawers a lot more often and I can pay my bills.
Q: [Laughs], so with this new album what do you like most about it?
Meth: The aggressiveness on it and I like the fact that I got to work with Eric Sermon a whole lot more. RZA going back to where he was is always a plus.
Q: So do you feel it's your best work to date?
Meth: Yeah.
Q: Why so?
Meth: Well for the simple fact that a lot of people been counting me out since day one since the first album. I never really gotten the stuff that I needed. Something would always happen, be a flood in the basement and it washes away all the data and stuff that RZA had. You know they put Puffy on my project, but that kind of ended. This album here was more or less like, I'll just say it was a Meth album and it was way more focused. It was no acting or nothing in the way of it. It was just me in the studio doing what I love to do.
Q: Yeah, I like that song "Somebody done F..ck up", so how you get up with Havoc?
Meth: Havoc just happened to send that beat to me. I always loved Mobb Deep man and Prodigy is of my favorite MC's. I mean Havoc always checked for the kid and I love him for it, because I'm at stage in my career now where ain't nobody checking for me like that, so much love to Havoc.
Q: People be sleeping on Havoc when it comes to those beats, Havoc is nasty.
Meth: Yeah Havoc gets slept on, but we know what time it is. The streets know what time it is and we know what time it is, he stays working man.
Q: That song by Scott Storch is a banger, but I bet that price was crazy.
Meth: [Laughs], let me tell you something about Scott Storch. Scott Storch is one of the most down to earth and humble people I ever met in my life. To answer your question he ain't charge me shit for that beat, he gave it to me.
Q: Yeah, but you know with him being one of the top producers his numbers is crazy though.
Meth: Yeah, his numbers is crazy, but when it came to Meth he gave that to me for free. It wasn't no favor for favor he gave that to me.
Q: I guess that was straight out of respect.
Meth: Word and I love him for that man.
Q: So when you and Redman going to do another "Blackout" album?
Meth: Def Jam willing, hopefully we'll get it out after Redman drops his album.
Q: The game is missing Redman right now.
Meth: Yeah I know, that's one thing I do be knowing.
Q: How you feel about Wu-Tang clan being honored at the VH1 hip-hop honors?
Meth: I just felt it was too early. I have of lot of respect for Fab 5 Freddy and others. On that note though I think it was way too early and I think it might been for ratings. Maybe it was just to get that old-school stigma off the show, because it's definitely an old-school show. I thought it was on there to help educate kids on where hip-hop came from and honoring these people that they forgot about you know. They skipped a lot of people putting us in that spot, so I feel like it was way too early. They forgot EPMD and a lot of people lost in the shuffle that really mattered to the game.
Q: But everybody know the Wu is one of the best crews to ever come in the game and set the foundation for other crews like Dipset, G-unit and all them cats.
Meth: I understand that, but we wasn't even in the game for 20 years. The people we got honored with been in the game 25-30 years.
Q: No doubt, it was crazy how ya'll was holding it down back in the day, especially with ya'll different names and everything.
Meth, Yeah, but it is what it is you know, it is what it is.
Q: Everybody knows that first album "36 chambers" was a classic.
Meth: Yeah, pretty much. It's usually like that with people's first albums and stuff like that, especially when they're getting a lot of love.
Q: So what's your favorite Wu album?
Meth: The first one.
Q: One thing is that The RZA is one of the greatest producers ever.
Meth; Yeah he cool. RZA do his thing and he goes off at times just like most producers do, it just grows.
Q: You getting into any acting soon?
Meth: Check for me on ‘The Wire". As far as Hollywood is going I'm cool with Hollywood. I'm chillin on that for a minute. If I get something I like maybe I'll go out for it.
Q: Thanks for the love Meth. Have anything to say to the readers of www.hhnlive.com?
Meth: Yeah just go out and buy that "4:21" album. If you feel like it's not visible enough for you and not supported correctly write your local label and tell them you how feel.
Q: You have a site where fans can hit you up?
Meth: www.method-man.com and www.myspace.com/methodman.
Q: I'll just say to ya'll fans out there cop that new album "4:21", because it's a hot album and ya'll need to get it.
Meth: I appreciate that man. I can use love anywhere I can get it right now. I really like that man.
Q: Keep making good music and we'll hold you down.
Meth: Thanks man and I appreciate the interview.
