Other Side Of The Block: Countdown To The Ozone Awards

In less than 24 hours I'll be headed to Miami, FL for the greatest event in Southern hip-hop (a.k.a. the TJ's DJ's Tastemaker DJ/Music Conference & 2nd Annual Ozone Awards). I could sit here and be nonchalant about the event like it's no big deal but fuck that…I'm almost crunk enough to crank dat Soulja Boy (hey, I said almost). First of all, I'm going to Miami. Second of all, I'm going to Miami.
No, but seriously, this event has been months in the making and Ozone Magazine's owner and Editor-In-Chief, Julia Beverly, has put in a lot of work to make sure this event goes down properly. I don't think she's gotten any sleep during the last few weeks but then again, I don't think she sleeps much anyways.
I attended the Ozone Awards in Orlando, FL last year and I've yet to see a better event put together in the South (and I'm not just saying that because I'm on the Ozone payroll). It was crazy seeing the number of artists, DJs and industry figures the event drew last year, so it's hard to fathom this year's turn out (it's gonna be in Miami for Christ's stake). Last year the Ozone Awards featured performances by Rick Ross, Trick Daddy, Pitbull, DJ Khaled, Cool & Dre, Plies, Young Dro, Yung Joc, Shawnna, Ludacris, DJ Drama, T-Pain, Trae, UGK and Lil Wayne, along with appearances by Young Jeezy, David Banner, Trina, Lil Boosie, B.G., 8Ball & MJG, Paul Wall and some other Southern artists that I could name but you all probably wouldn't know who the hell I was talking about.
This year, the line-up is even more star-studded. Hold on, let me give you the run-down: Performances by Rick Ross, Plies, T-Pain, Young Jeezy & USDA, Lil Wayne, Baby, Trick Daddy, Yung Joc, DJ Khaled, Hurricane Chris, Foxx, Lil Boosie, Webbie, Baby Boy, Fat Joe, Rich Boy, Lloyd, Too $hort, Soulja Boy and the Shop Boyz. And appearances by Jim Jones, Slim Thug, B.G., Bun B, Lil Scrappy, Trina, Mike Jones, Pitbull, Devin the Dude, Trae, Pastor Troy, Mannie Fresh, Crime Mob, Fabo, Freeway, Trey Songz, Uncle Luke, Brisco, Rasheeda, Jody Breeze, Play & Skillz, Kymani Marley, Jacki-O, Gangsta Boo, Cool & Dre, Juelz Santana, JT Money, Killer Mike, Clyde Carson, Polow da Don, Brisco, Gorilla Zoe, Mistah FAB, Keak da Sneak and the show is hosted by comedians, Charlie Murphy and Lil Duval. Damn, this shit is gonna be dummy retarded (word, to the Bay area).
Hopefully, you're somewhere making final arrangements to make it down to Miami this weekend, if not, sucks to be you. I could sit here and write a few more paragraphs but if you don't get it by now…just forget it. I have packing to do. Watch last year's video and maybe that'll help some of you get a visual of what's about to take place.
